The best charter area in Portugal is one the South coast where the Algarve provides 150 perfect miles of superb sailing coastline. The coastline to the West of Faro consists of small bays and coves broken up by striking rocky outcrops and amazing grottoes, perfect for anchoring, diving, fishing and snorkelling. East of Faro, the coast comprises sandy off-shore islets, which have created secluded anchorages and the most spectacular beaches that stretch for miles.

Sailing conditions

Winds tend to blow from the east averaging 15-25 knots. Navigation can be difficult due to numerous reefs. Best time to visit is between June and November.

Getting there

Direct flights are available from London and Lisbon to Ponta Delgada (Azores) Also there are flights from the UK to Faro, Lisbon and Porto, many with low-cost operators. From Faro Airport to Vilamoura is approx 20km by taxi.
