The Montenegro coast line is 295 km long, boasts 72 km of beaches, and is scatterred with many well-preserved ancient old towns. Places not to be missed include: Old town of Kotor,Boka Kotorska (Bay of Kotor), some say the most beautiful fjord in Europe, where the Adriatic sea cuts deep in mountains; with the ancient small town of Perast and its islets, the old town of Budva with very well preserved old town, and Budva itself with its sandy beaches and great cafes and restaurants.

Ideal conditions for sailors looking for reliable winds. During the summer months there are steady afternoon breezes, southerly or westerly averaging Force 2-5 dying down at night. Experience level 2. For yacht charter in Montenegro the skipper must have RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate or RYA ICC qualification.

Kotor Town Marina is just 30 minutes from Tivat Airport and one hour from Dubrovnik. There are limited direct flights to Tivat or Podgorica, in Montenegro, or alternatively the base can be reached by road from Dubrovnik Airport, to which there are numerous flights.

7 Day Itinerary

DAY 1: Check-in at Kotor. Yachts are based at the town marina in the beautiful old town.

DAY 2: Sail to Perast for lunch. In the afternoon sail to Herceg Novi (total 14nm), the medieval fortified city guarding the entrance to the Boka Kotorska Bay. Moor on the pier under the medieval fortress.

DAY 3: Head south along the coast to Budva (20nm), the tourism centre of Montenegro with its numerous beaches and historic monuments. During the summer months it turns into a City Theatre with numerous local performances and shows from abroad. In the Stari Grad (old town) you can also visit many shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries. Good all round shelter in the harbour near the Old City.

DAY 4: It’s worth a sail further south to Petrovac for lunch. This small village near Sveti Stefan is famous for its beautiful beaches and historic monuments including mosaics dating to the 3rd century. For diving enthusiasts the two small islands Katic and Sveta Nedjelja are a real attraction. Return to overnight at Budva (total 14nm).

DAY 5: Heading north to Bigovo (12nm) a beautiful fishing village located on the peninsula of Lustica. The harbour offers good shelter but limited facilities ashore, including a couple of fish restaurants, which provide fresh fish daily and 2 shops.

DAY 6: Stop off at Rose at the entrance to Boka Kotorska, one of the oldest settlements in the Bay. Overnight at Perast (total 17nm), full of history,
old palaces, churches and villas from the seafaring days of the Venetian Republic when it was the home of wealthy merchants. Today it is often called the quietest town in Boka.

DAY 7: Return to Kotor (6nm). For your last evening visit the Old City. The medieval architecture has made Kotor an UNESCO listed “World Natural and Historical Heritage Site”.

8 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Board your yacht in Kotor

Day 2: Kotor to Cavtat
A retreat for wealthy Croatians and a hub for artists, Cavtat is a fascinating destination. Check out the local food market, hike to the Mausoleum, and try a travarica (powerful, local herb-brandy) in one of the bars.

Day 3: Cavtat to Dubrovnik / Sipan (Croatia)
Sipan is the largest of the Elafiti Islands. It is famed for its numerous palm tree species. Olives, figs, almonds, and citrus fruits are all grown on the island.

Day 4: Sipan to Pimena(Mljet)
Slow down and enjoy the simple life on Pimena, a village with less than 100 inhabitants.

Day 5: Pimeno to Jakljan
Jakljan is home to a mass grave of 102 WWII POWS.

Day 6: Jakljan to Dubrovnik / Cavtat

Day 7: Cavtat to Kotor

Day 8: Leave the yacht
