Sailing in the British Virgin Islands is fun and exciting even if all you do is idle from island to island. But imagine if you could plan your trip to include one of the region’s amazing festivals?  The warmth of the British Caribbean culture can be truly appreciated during the BVI Music Festival, for example, and you can really give your taste buds a treat during BVI Restaurant Week and the Anegada Lobster Festival. Read on for a few of our top picks for local events to enjoy while sailing in the British Virgin Islands.

For Foodies

Caribbean cuisine is a fusion of spices and tropical ingredients, with influences from Europe, the East Indies and indigenous island cultures. Delight in the best the region has to offer, paired with fine wines during the BVI Wine & Food Festival.

BVI Restaurant Week leads into the Anegada Lobster Festival (mentioned above). It’s a chance to enjoy amazing dishes and a range of fun culinary events and entertainment. Learn more on the event’s Facebook page.

Sailing and Yacht Events

Yachting is a way of life in the BVI and there are loads of events dedicated to the sport. Check out the BVI Charter Yacht Show for a viewing of the yachts, culinary contest, environmental seminar and so much more.

You’ll also find regattas throughout the year, such as the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival where you can have fun, meet new people, join in the race or just observe the festivities from the decks of your bareboat charter.

Fishing in Paradise

Deep sea fishing tournaments are a fun way to join in the action, competing for the prize for the biggest Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Kingfish and more. Check out the Captain Lowell Wheatley Memorial Gamefish Tournament, held on Anegada- they’ll be awarding over $10,000 in cash and prizes!

Cultural Celebrations

The rich history of the BVI and blend of cultures result in some very exciting celebrations throughout the various islands. This is a chance to see traditional dance, singing and the country’s iconic parades during your bareboat charter.

Virgin Gorda’s Easter Festival Celebration is set to include the Calypso monarch competition parade, and the BVI Emancipation Festival is now in its 60th year, showcasing music, parades and all sorts of merrymaking.
