Birgu on Malta is an historic city which has been the centre of seafaring activity over 1,000 years. Its waterfront is made up of extraordinary buildings associated with the naval squadron of the Knights of St John and Fort St Angelo still stands proudly at the entrance to Dockyard Creek, witness to nearly one thousand years of history and numerous battles. Following the departure of the Royal Navy, the recent construction of the modern marina in the city has meant an influx of yachts from all over the Mediterranean.
It is from Birgu that you set sail to enjoy the unspoilt beauty and history of the Maltese islands. Explore the second largest island of Gozo, with its natural caves, the oldest temples in the world and an abundance of religious attractions. The third island of Comino is largely uninhabited, but provides excellent swimming in the famous Blue Lagoon and a sheltered anchorage for the night.
Malta experiences hot, dry summers with average temperatures of 30C in July and August. Autumn is warm and sporadically wet, and the winters are short and cool with adequate rainfall. There are reliable steady sailing winds all year round.
