For people outside of the boating community, a sailing holiday may seem like a pipe dream. But what’s great about sailing is that you can introduce others to the joy of being out on the open seas. After the first time, they may just be hooked for life!
If you’re a proficient sailor (certified by the RYA, for example) you can take just about any group of people you like. Just remember, it’s best to have several other able bodies on board to help. If possible, bring people who can be members of the crew as well as guests.
Why not plan a on a bareboat charter? In today’s modern world many of us live hundreds if not thousands of miles from our loved ones. Rent a larger sailboat or catamaran, and you can spend quality time together in a beautiful place. With the right boat, you’ll still have plenty of privacy as well. Meet up in the Caribbean or Mediterranean and discover new places together.
You can also incorporate sailing into a great guys getaway. Instead of Vegas, plan for a relaxing week of cruising, deep sea fishing, adventurous land excursions (zip-lining, anyone?) and of course some quality liquid refreshments.
Do like this brave dad and plan a graduation celebration aboard a sailboat. Teens can make great crew members and their excitement might just make you feel like a kid again.
Sailing with younger kids can be surprisingly simple as well. Check out our Fun Sailing Schedules for Kids, and don’t write off the idea of a bareboat charter to celebrate things like birthdays as a family.
Honeymoons are a natural fit for charters as well. Where else can you focus fully on the love of your life, with all the romance of the sea and the stars?
Sailing with just about any group can be the perfect way to spend time together and enjoy a great cruising experience.
